Description:
We start this discovering trail of the spheres at Palmar sur, visiting some of the spheres the government brought back to the original site, after they were discovered in the fifties many people took them to their houses using it them as ornamental artefacts in their gardens. On this tour we get to plunge into the history of the southern Costa Rica, since the pre-Columbian times until the arriving of the United Fruit Company in the 30’s.
Then we continue our trail to the archeological site where the spheres are located in its original site, this are untouched ones since there were aligned there by the ancient civilization.
This enigmatic pre-Columbian legacy is located in finca 6-11 on 10 Hectares property of the Costa Rica National Museum it was declared as World Heritage by the UNESCO IN JUNE 2014.
At the site we find a sunken village of an ancient civilization that lived in the area between AD 400-1400 and made this perfect round stones. The stones have been found in patterns that resemble astronomic constellations and maybe water cycles or calendars.
Later we visit the museum, to take a brief introduction of the history by graphics, pictures, and timelines recreated by archeologists that have dedicated their lives to study this treasure, after the museum we take a hike to see the alignments in situ and the sunken village area.
